During last night’s debate/town hall/discussion someone asked what sacrifice the candidates would call the American people to make in light of the economic crisis we are in. It was no surprise that neither candidate dared to answer directly.
I hate sacrifice and have an obsessive commitment to my own personal ease and comfort but I did have an idea for a good answer.
One of them should have suggested that everyone donate at least one hour a week of volunteer service. Huge economic impact. Good for positive attitude building. Helps perspective. Betters the world. Etc…
Instead, both candidates continued to feed the “what’s in it for me” monster. A tragically missed opportunity to inspire.
(If McCain wins I may have to let my mortgage default.)
