I confess. I didn’t vote for him but I would love to be in DC for what will be the 2nd most historic inauguration. While I do not agree with his politics I do hope and pray that President Obama will be able to inspire a nation that desperately needs inspiration.
Washington’s big day will always be the biggest. Without the first, and what it represented, there would be no inauguration of America’s first black president. With all its many issues and past sins, slavery being chief among them, this country has still been THE best human social experiment to date.
Obama’s inauguration will be special. It represents the manifestation of on our primary beliefs: All men (people) are created equal. This occasion should be celebrated by people of all races as a victory of the American ideal and the tenacity of those leaders such as Martin Luther King.
I am grateful this historic event occurred during my lifetime. My hope is that I will live long enough to see the first Hispanic president, Asian president, and even Native American.
On a slightly different note… Has any other president-elect gotten such a big party two days before their inauguration? Wow! Obama-palooza! Someone please reserve some counseling time for those two little girls. How on earth will they be able to develop anything related to a healthy perspective on the world? (That being said, I have no reason to doubt that the Obama’s are good parents.)
Let’s hope that the energy that goes in to the celebration will continue after the party’s over.
